Who We Are

Supporting Cardinals since 1977

Our Mission

The Hoover Alumni Organization exists to encourage and enable alumni and friends to support — through volunteerism and financial contribution — the students, principal, and staff of Herbert Hoover High School in San Diego.

We are dedicated to maintaining a connection between Hoover's past and present, honoring the school's traditions while investing in its future through scholarships and enrichment programs.

What We Do

Scholarships

We award $1,000 scholarships to graduating Hoover seniors each year to help with first-year college expenses, evaluated on GPA, financial need, character, and career aspirations.

School Programs

Our donations fund music, athletics (soccer, wrestling, flag football, baseball), cheer, JROTC archery, culinary arts, and The Red Thread Community Thrift Store.

Alumni Community

We publish semi-annual newsletters, organize reunions and annual events, maintain class contacts, and keep Cardinals connected no matter how many years have passed.

Organization History

The Hoover Alumni Organization was founded in 1977 by graduates who wanted to give back to the school that shaped them. What began as a small volunteer effort has grown into a recognized organization with hundreds of members spanning graduation years from 1932 to the present day.

Herbert Hoover High School, located at 4474 El Cajon Boulevard in the College Area of San Diego, has been a cornerstone of the community for nearly a century. Its first graduating class walked out in 1932. Through the decades, Hoover has produced notable alumni including baseball legend Ted Williams and football star Bill McColl.
